Shopping Smart

Hello Hello! Happy Thursday!

I was so excited to share this post with you because I want to do more of these, but first I want to make sure it’s something that you guys are interested in reading up on! So, Ive recently started shopping smarter so to say. Lets be realistic Im just like you, I have bills, I have a job and Im going to keep it real with you I don’t make money off of my blog just yet. 😉 I do this because I genuinely love sharing with you all, my life and my style. Nothing gratifies me more then when ya’ll tell me you come to my page for some inspiration when you don’t know what to wear. Im always like whattttt?! Its awesome! It pushes me to continue on this journey and I don’t plan on stopping!

So Im gonna share a quick tip with you all, when Im shopping Ive started something that Ive noticed has made a huge difference in my closet and my wallet. First off I have my top 5 stores where I have been shopping religiously because it’s affordable and because you can find things that actually look really expensive. (Ill share these stores with you on my next post, promise!) I personally can not shop online. Ive tried and once in a while I do, but Im an instant gratification kind of gal. If Im gonna buy something I need it NOW! haha. Im so impatient ya’ll. Anyways, so I like to go “shopping” twice a month. In the beginning of the month and mid month, the only reason I can do this is because I rarely spend more $80 on these trips. Usually I get a pair of shoes, or just a few key pieces that I want to add to my closet.

When walking into a store, sometimes we can get completely overwhelmed, but this happens when we have no idea what we want or were just not in the right mind frame. You have to be in the mood to shop and try on. I like going early in the morning on my days off, after working out and before eating anything big. Pretty much it helps if you’re feeling yourself, one of those “I woke up like diis” kind of moods. Okay, so heres my routine, I start by walking around the store and doing one lap around, I grab things that I want to try on and into the fitting room I go. A huge reason why I don’t like buying online is were not those perfect models they show, our bodies are beautiful but they’re different. Learn your body, learn what looks good and what looks awful so that you can avoid those at all costs! For example Im wide on my chest so I can’t wear anything with a high neck and loose fitting at the waist otherwise I look preggo and helloooo, aint nobody wanna look like that!

In the fitting room as you’re trying things on make yourself a “hell yes” pile, a “hell no” pile and a maybe pile. After you’re done trying on, go through and heres my secret, with your closet in mind try and create at least 3 outfits in your head with the items you love. Now you may be thinking, well Lex what if I have a huge closet and I don’t know each piece? Then one, you may need to start clearing out your closet or learning what it is you have so that you’re not buying similar pieces and spending money when you don’t need to. But two, just try and imagine if you’ll see yourself wearing that item more than 3 times, at least! Trust me, I know it may seem like a process but its something that has truly helped me stay organized and has saved me money.

I recently wore this top with an all black outfit to work, I linked it here for you to see. I got so many compliments on it saying it looked expensive! (I got it at Forever 21 for $12! hehe) The other day I went out with my gal pal to Malibu and I paired it with my distressed jeans which I also wore here, and my cute little handbag is from goodwill! The only new item Im wearing are my shoes, and they were from Nordstrom Rack. So you see? You don’t need to be constantly buying new pieces, you simply need to buy things that are versatile and that you can mix and match to create new outfits. Shop smart babes!

So there it is, a quick little tip for you when you go shopping. And please, don’t forget Im here to help, so if you have any other questions or if I missed something let me know and Ill gladly try and help you out! 🙂
